Nothing randomly. This lake is the closest thing on Earth similar to Lake Itomori. It was actually formed due a comet or an asteroid impact, not 1200 years ago but 65 million years ago (believe me that's a very long time). We all know that Itomori lake was also formed due to same process of meteorite impact.
